A world unto itself, as if it were suspended in time, isolated in its own dimension and seemingly detached from the worldly context of this planet. Like a sort of imaginary island….
Indians and cowboys, sheriffs and outlaws, the good, the bad… and the bad. Missionaries and businessmen, churches and saloons, the litany of oxymorons continues ad infinitum. Though tamed by the railways, it must be said: the WEST is still the WEST. While the “old west” departed, there is something that remains. In fact, perhaps the railways didn’t tame the west at all but instead immersed us all within it.
For who has never dreamed of living in those days, with a star on their chest, and a handkerchief to cover their face? So, let’s allow this whisky to be our time machine, as we find ourselves sitting at the window of the first train that brings us into the sunset….
A hard, mineral, vibrant nose. Like a soldier hardened by days of marching, this whisky has developed a clean character and iron personality. In the mouth, the immediate manifestation is metallic. But, unlike its very clean bouquet, on the palate it expands its breadth and length with a lingering, dusty grip. ALas, we taste the dusty air of the wind that blows as we arrive in the train station, and take our first steps into the west.
Can you just play or can you also shoot? (Once Upon A Time In The West - 1968)
